The My Favorite Martian Bloghop is finally here!

So the day is finally here! Today, is the My Favorite Martian Bloghop. When I started thinking about which martian/alien/life form from another planet is my favorite, ET was the first to spring to mind. But then I thought harder and realized I like ET, but he is not my favorite. So, I continued thinking, and do you know what I realized? There are a LOT of Aliens that I like. Superman, Supergirl, Martian Man Hunter, The entire character base of Star Wars, Alf, Mork, the aliens from Earth Girls are Easy, Transformers…..seriously the list goes on and on. Finally, I was down to 2 favorites….both from the Star Trek Universe, Spock and Q.

So I thought and thought about it. While I do love Spock, ( specially Leonard Nimoy’s version) and his logical thinking, in the end Q won out. Why? Because he is HILARIOUS!

Q (played by John de Lancie) appeared on 3 different Star Trek series  Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, and in my opinion, those episodes tended to be the highlight of the season. Q comes from the Q Continuum, where Q and every other Q live. Yes each one is called Q, however this Q is definitely unique. He is considered to be a rebel by the other Q, since he causes so much trouble in the universe. The Q are considered Omnipotent…..they understand how the universe works and can manipulate it to their will.

Q always showed up at the least convenient times. He caused HUGE amounts of trouble. In the end it always worked out, one way or another.

Q was completely OBSESSED with Captain Picard. He was the captain that Q tortured the most. Of course all you have to do is listen to Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) and you have a chance of becoming completely obsessed as well.

However, Captain Picard wasn’t the only Captain he obsessed about. He tried to mate with Janeway…. tried being the key word.

So that is why Q is my favorite, because he is a hilarious trouble maker. If you are a Star Trek fan than you already know Q. If you aren’t then you just learned about one of the most awesome “Puck” like characters in the Star Trek universe.

Please take a moment to hop around to the other blogs and find out who their favorite aliens are…. it should be a blast.

I would also love if you would leave a comment letting me know who your favorite alien is! Oh, and if you haven’t signed up for my newsletter yet you can in the left hand side bar near the top ——> over there. You will only get notices when I post something new…..and I would NEVER sell anyones information.

So interesting who you picked! I have seen Spock and Q already as I made my rounds and I am starting to think there are a lot of Trekkies in this hop. That is ok though most people would have expected me to pick a Star Wars character and I didn’t. I am going to have to watch more Star Trek to learn more about Q But I already like spock from the new film.

    good picks

hahaha I havent made my rounds yet. Maybe Star Trek is just one of the first people think of? Most people would probably think I would choose a Star Wars Character as well – My loyalties are divided 50/50 on which one I like better….but Q is my main man. John de Lancie is an awesome actor….so maybe that is why I love Q so much!

Q is an excellent choice! He definitely is Puck-like! I hadn’t made that comparison before. Thanks :)

Oh, good choice. Q is such a pain in the arse! But yeah, he is pretty hilarious. And he was in some of the best episodes of ST:TNG!

Great choice! The Q episodes of TNG and Voyager were always some of my favorites. I wonder if J.J. Abrams would consider putting a Q character in the new Star Trek continuity . . .

    • geekgirldythia says:

hmm interesting thought. I am not sure if that would work well since Picard was the first to make contact with the Q and remember it (I think…I need to sit down and watch again) I guess they could make it where everyone forgot who they were.

I’m so glad someone chose Q. We humans should be flattered that the omnipotent race had “some concern regarding” us. Favorite Q line was from DS9 though. “You hit me. Piccard never hit me.”

Saying “Howdy” from the blog hop!

A very interesting choice….Q. I met John at a Star Trek convention once…a very down to earth, nice, guy who really seemed to enjoy what he was doing.

Great blog, by the way and -very- relevant to my interests :)

Hi Mark – welcome:) I would love to meet him….he is one of the many people I would like to meet from Star Trek – The first being a tie between Leonard Nimoy and Patrick Stewart. I am glad to hear he is a down to eart guy – that is how I imagined him. I hate it when actors protray a character you love and then are complete jerks….ruins the whole character.

  • Sci-Fi Gene says:

I see Q has picked up a few votes… Initially I found him extremely annoying as a character, perhaps because he didn’t really fit into the whole sci-fi aspect of the show – until the episode where you see a visualisation of the Q continuum as an eternal waiting area when I started to see what they were trying to do. Actually one of the more interesting Star Trek concepts.

Puck is exactly right, or Loki, or perhaps a fallen angel.

Yes Loki would also work. I think I fell for Q because I was 6 or 7 when the show started and I found him very very funny!

Hey Natasha, already following you. Thanks for the comment on my alien post. I see that you mention ALF and Mork also. As far as Star Trek goes, I only saw the original Shatner series. Loved him back then, hate him now. I remember the actor you mention playing Q starred on Days of Our Lives way back when, possibly his debut. He came on as stalking Marlana, but later became a regular. As Eugene, he was humorous in that role too. Gosh, that had to have been in the early 80′s. I wonder if anyone else remembers that. I’m sooo old!

Thanks for starting this blog hop!

Q was never my favorite character, but he was a lot of fun, I have to admit. I loved the ‘Q-in-law’ paperback novel where they first showed Q matching wits with Lwxana Troi (or however you spell that,) and of course his first meeting with Ben Sisko:

“You HIT me! *Picard* would never have HIT me!!”

    “I’M NOT PICARD!”

Q rocks! He was a major pain in the ass most of the time, but you have to give him mucho street cred for hanging around so long- John DeLancie is a pretty freaking good actor, and that does NOT include his stint on Days of Our Lives. LOL. I thought he was absolutely hysterical stalking Picard(it was stalking, right? In intergalactic form?).
    Good choice Natasha!
