Geek Jewelry Fun and a GIVEAWAY!!!

Geek jewelry

I like browsing around Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/) I love the fact that a lot of the products are handmade by real people. By buying from Etsy you are helping a mom pay for her childs new school shoes or a dad pay the electricity bill or a young adult save up for college books. Ok enough of the P.S.A., basically buy from Etsy stores when you can, because it helps the little businesses.

Batman earrings from Nerdy Robot

While I was browsing a few days ago I came across these really cool Batman Earrings – I love Geek Jewelry so I had to find out what else this shop carried. The shops name is Nerdy Robot. They have very reasonable prices – just $6.00 for these Batman earrings. I continued to look through the shop and found some more pieces I liked… a lot (Ok maybe I squealed a teeny bit)

Grumpy Bear Cares a lot earrings by Nerdy Robot

I asked the owners of Nerdy Robots to tell us a bit about their company and product, and here is what they had to say.

It’s funny that you should ask about our “company and product”; we started this Etsy page as a way to make things together as friends. We wanted to work together, share credit and just have a good time making things that we would wear and give as gifts. We do have another Etsy together, where we keep everything separate. It’s ran like a serious “business” and it can feel quite stifling/overwhelming. This other page( The Group1111 )  is, for the most part, all original work. With few exceptions, I didn’t want fan art on there (I did allow “inspired by” work); with the amount of fan art we wanted to make, this presented a problem. I decided that the only solution was to create a second page and really geek-out.

At its creation, Nerdy Robots was made to have fun. When I presented the idea to Devy, I told her it was no holds bar. No rules, no limits, no exceptions (this was completely opposite to the way we ran The Group). I didn’t care how “unprofessional” we seemed/came across. This really freed up our imaginations! It was all of a sudden extremely fun and gratifying to make things and write quirky descriptions. We laugh a lot when we write them together!

Captain America Shield Earrings Post by Nerdy Robot

As far as our product design or target market were concerned, we didn’t think much about it in the beginning. It wasn’t like, “we are going to offer comic book/geeky jewelry to woman because this market has been severely overlooked.” Although, thinking about it now, I think we might be able to claim that! It was more about what we wanted to see in the world, or at least wear in the world, that didn’t exist to our knowledge. I didn’t want it to be about gender! To that end the post earrings were conceived of! We wanted to reach both men and women. I told Devy I could see men wearing the Captain America Shield Earrings because they were posts. I think we both figured they would be purchased by men. It was an amazing surprise that women loved them! An even bigger surprise was when men bought them as gifts for their lady loves! We had to update our descriptions at that point! These earrings are for everyone!

In the future we plan to continue making things that strike our fancy. In the works are some paper products: hand-bound books featuring all our geeky favs, stationery, cards, postcards, Et cetera. I know Devy just made this awesome R2D2 key chain, that I might have to buy and tote around! We are also playing with the idea of making things that are not girly, super girly. For example: creepy, but extremely girly Halloween cards. On that note, we might also start incorporating things that are on the fringe of geekdom.

In the end we are just Robots looking for a good time. Using our skills and good common sense to make things that we enjoy and that we hope others will enjoy too! I suppose our motto is that,”we don’t take ourselves to seriously”.

A great company motto, in my opinion! Now let’s get on with the Geek Jewelry Giveaway.
