Recipe for Fresh Pumpkin Pie

There is nothing like a good pumpkin pie when it is fall. When I was younger I always made pumpkin pie from a can….using the recipe on the can. I never thought that I could easily bake a pumpkin pie like my grandmother could. I always envied the people who could take a pumpkin and turn it into so many tasty dishes.

Then, one day, I had a pumpkin and looked up some old recipes for Fresh Pumpkin Pie. It was so easy. I thought…hmmm this can not be – I thought that it would need a master chef… or my grandmother to make something so tasty. Well I am here to tell you , it is easier than it sounds. Don’t be intimidated by that scary pumpkin any longer! Continue reading

2012 Holiday Gift Guide for Geeks (click the picture to go to the 2012 Holiday Gift Guide for Geeks)

How to Make Fresh Pumpkin Puree

Making fresh pumpkin puree is simpler then one would think. I always went and bought cans of pumpkin, but I had heard for soups and such fresh pumpkin puree tastes better. So today I am going to teach you how to make fresh pumpkin puree.

Supplies for fresh pumpkin puree:

A pumpkin – I use a Jack-O-Lantern pumpkin because you get so much more, but you can also use a small pie pumpkin. Pie pumpkins are sweeter – so if you use a pie pumpkin, you will have to lessen the sugar asked for in recipes.

A Steamer or a make shift steamer (I used a big pot with a metal pasta strainer set inside)

A big knife – you may have to try a few to find the one you like best

Big Bowls

Blender or an immersion blender

Hi Crafty Geeks! I think these little Jack-O-Lantern candles would be a nice addition around a party, or great for the outside of the house while you pass out candy. These candles are easy to make – so easy to make that children can do it, with adult supervision, of course. Continue reading

Unique Gift Bags

Ever since I was a small child, I have thought that the gift bags make the party. The more unique the gift bag, the better the party…really, I believe there is a correlation. Every party I went to as a child that was just “the best party” ever, had really cool gift bags. They are the last thing your guests see as they leave the party. So at your next party, send your guests off with these cute and unique gift bags. Continue reading

A Bloody Good Post, How To Make Fake Blood With The Crafty Geek

Fake Blood

Supplies Needed:
1/2C Corn Syrup- I used light corn syrup. You can also use Dark corn syrup, maple syrup, honey, or the fake honey that the dollar tree sell (which is probably corn syrup LOL) You will just have to play around with the dye to get the color you want. Also if you use an alternative the taste may change – so be aware of that.

Here is the how to video. I actually make my appearance on film for the first time…I hate appearing on video and apparently I was nervous as I kept rolling my eyes …. not something I do in normal conversation :) Well at least I don’t think so – maybe I do…. Now I am going to be so awkward in my next conversation trying to see if I roll my eyes that much…. it is an awful cycle. Anyways….I have to do all my video in one take since I don’t have any video editing software yet – I need to buy a new computer.  Top it off that my camera man is a tripod and you have the making of the most unprofessional home video EVER!

You can store your fake blood in the refrigerator until you need it.(You may need to take it out and warm to room temperature so that it thins a little) And as I said in the video this is liquid sugar – don’t decorate with it to far in advanced as it might attract bugs. Great for the day of the event. This is also very sticky…so be ready for it! This will stain cloth…3 wash clothes were harmed in the making of this film… I am hoping bleach will help, but I made sure I used my old rag wash clothes just in case. I dropped some on my counter and it wiped off completely after 10 minutes of setting on the counter. However I dropped some on another part of the counter and it set in for over an hour and it left a light pink stain. I think it will come off with some Comet or Bleach – but I thought I would mention it.

This will also look so nice on a Halloween cake or cupcakes that needs blood as a decoration….

So what do you think of my video and my fake blood? Does it pass the test?
